Are you an active individual who loves the thrill of surfing and the great outdoors? Well, you might have stumbled across the right post, these are the essentials. Ranked from Fundamental to Its Nice to Have.

Surfboard: It might sound obvious, but the most essential item to be surfer is, of course, the surfboard. If you are reading this post, the chances are you are planning to start surfing. Choose a board that will allow you to catch as many waves as possible and steer away from short boards. As a surfer myself I started surfing on my early twenties and it took me several years of frustration and sessions of hardly getting any waves before realizing it was not about looking cool with a shortboard, but to have the most fun in the water.
Wetsuit: Play it simple, do not go fancy and get a modestly price wetsuit. You wont know the difference between a top of the range and an entry level if you're not familiar with them. If you pursue your surfing carrier you can get a better one a year or so later. Also remember that is better a bit warmer than cold. It would be better a winter wettie (4.3mm) that you allow water to flush in from time to time, than a summer wetsuit that can only be used in the hot months, but in winter offers a very limited usability.
Leash: Have you seen one of those guys surfing with no leash? Well, don't be one of them!! When started growing the confidence in my surfing, I decided to surf with no leash. It was matter of time for a big set to roll through and snap the boar from my hands and ended up colliding with a novice surfer down the line. Luckily she was fine and waiting on shore with my board. She wasn't very happy, and I was very embarrassed.
Surf wax: No one wants to be tryna get some good waves just to have your board sliding off position every time. Make that board hold on tight and get some wax.
Sunscreen: Oil it up, it does not hurt and it can protect your skin from getting irritated. Even on the cloudy days it is important to be protected from the UV rays.
Beach towel: Please have a bit of privacy, don't be like the old blokes flashing everyone in the carpark with their naked bums, cuz no one wants to see it. Poncho towel is best but just abut any towel can do the job.
Key lock: if you are lucky enough to have an older model car, then you can probably take the keys with you in the key pocket that most wetsuits have. unfortunately, most recent cars are keyless and that means an electronic apparatus you wont be able to take to the water with you. Keep your car safe and get a lock and change your password from time to time to keep it safe.
Fins: Surfing with no fins can be soooo much fun, but until you master the art of getting consistent waves and steering confidently at your own will, I would not recommend surfing without them.
Surfboard repair kit: Be prepared for any dings or cracks in your surfboard since it will happen even if you are the most careful person with your equipment. Surfboards are like magnets drawn to other boards or to the ground. You will eventually crash someone, someone will crash on you or simply the board will be accidentally dropped, so be ready
Surf tees and stickers: Well, how's everyone going to know you're a surfer ready to rip? Get some surf apparel to spice up you vibe, and some stickers to style up your board.
